Personal Bible Study Hints
Always
begin your personal Bible reading and study time in
prayer. Psalm 119:18
Take
brief notes on what you read. I keep a small
notebook at hand. I like those pretty journals you
can get at the stores. Remember this is your quite time
with God, tailor it to your own personal tastes and have
fun.
Read
slowly through a passage. After you are through, ask
yourself what it is about. then reread it.
-
what
is the main subject of the passage
-
who
are the persons revealed in this passage (who is
speaking and about whom)
-
what
is the key verse in the passage
-
what
does this passage teach me about Jesus
-
is
there a sin revealed to me
-
is
there a command to obey
-
is
there a promise to claim
-
what
are the instructions I need to follow
|
Keep
a spiritual diary. I keep mine with my notes.
Write down convictions revealed to you and promises you
claimed. Keep track of things you pray for while in
your Bible study.
Memorize
scripture. Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ
dwell in you richly...
Obey
the word of God. James
1:22 says "prove yourselves doers of the word and
not
merely hearers"
When you study the Bible God will reveal to you truths
that are sometimes easy and sometimes hard. Through
it all we must obey. Easier said than done, I
know. That is why we have prayer partners.

Timothy 3:16All Scripture is inspired by God and
profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for
training in righteousness. ~NASB~
