Horse Breeds

There are an incredible number of horse breeds out there. I truly feel none are better than the others since I love all horses.  There are breeds that are better at some things than others and more suited to a particular discipline.  Some people love certain breeds because of their beauty or intelligence.  When you purchase your horse, study the breeds and their characteristics and make an intelligent choice for you.  Some of the best horses I have ever owned were cross breeds.  The decision is all yours.

I will keep a few of the more common breeds on the site all the time.  I will add new and unusual breeds every month.

Arabian:  Arabian.jpg (58091 bytes)(click for larger view) The Arabian horse is considered the foundation of most of today's modern breeds. It is of the purest descent and is thought to be the most ancient of equines.

Description:  The Arabian is one of the most beautiful and graceful of all horses.  The Arabian has a unique outline that is governed by the proportions and the skeletal structure.  The average size is between 14.2 and 15 hands tall.  Other breeds have 18 ribs,6 lumbar bones and 18 tail vertebrae.  The Arabian had 17-5-16 structure.  Arabians are noted for incredible stamina and soundness.  This is one of the reasons they have become so popular with endurance and competitive trail exhibitors.  This breed has a short strong back, rounded ribs, flat croup and a deep heart girth.  His beautiful head has a dished profile with a small tapered muzzle and large expressive eyes.
