Summer Horsemanship Day Camp

 

Youth Equine School at Sherlock Farms offers a day camp designed to give children ages 6-17 the chance to experience the magic of horses in an atmosphere that promotes safety, education, responsibility and horsemanship.  Come join us for lots of fun around the horses. 

All day camps include a daily riding lesson.  Please register early. Fees may be paid with check, cash, or credit card.

Items to bring:

sunscreen

sunglasses

hat (baseball, cowboy or scarf)

long pants for riding, shorts are fine for non-riding activities

closed toed shoes with a heel 

tennis shoes are fine for non riding activities

bring a helmet if you have one, if not we have several to choose from

sack lunch and a snack (drinks will be provided)

swimsuit and towel

MINI CAMP CURRICULUM

Monday

9 am (5pm)- orientation
9:45 am(5:45 pm)- proper grooming methods
10:15 am (6:15 pm)- tack up horses
10:30 am (6:30 pm)- proper leading techniques
10:45 am (6:45 pm)- riding lesson
11:30 am (7:30 pm) - put horses away/stable management
12 pm (8 pm)- parents arrival and pick up
 

Tuesday

9 am (5 pm)- go over days events and assign horses
9:15 am (5:15 pm)-groom and tack horses
9:45 am (5:45 pm)- riding lesson
10:30 am (6:30 pm)- put horses away and bathing lesson
11:30 am (7:30 pm)-craft time
12 pm (8 pm)- parents arrival
 

Wednesday

9am (5 pm)- go over days events, review and assign horses for costume contest Thursday
9:15 am (5:15 pm)-groom and tack horses
9:45 am (5:45 pm)-riding lesson and games
10:45 am (6:45 pm)-put horses away
11 am (7 pm)-horse conformation (finger paint the horses parts)
11:45 am (7:45 pm)- rinse off horse and prepare to leave
12 pm (8 pm)-parents arrival
 

Thursday

parents day and costume contest, parents are welcome to stay and participate in the day
9 am (5 pm) go over days events
9:15 am (5:15 pm)- time to decorate our horses and you
10:30 am (6:30 pm) judging begins
11:00 am (7 pm)-riding lesson
11:30 am (7:30 pm)- clean up horses and put away
12 pm (8pm)- pictures with horse and parents. see you next year!

Monday

9 a.m. Orientation ( fill out forms, introduction, tour facility, discuss emergency procedures
10 a.m. Break/Assign horses
10:15 a.m. Approach, haltering, safety tie, and horse temperament
10:45 a.m.  Proper grooming methods
11:30  Proper leading techniques
12 p.m.  Lunch and free time
1:00 p.m.  Parts and function of the western saddle and bridle
1:30 p.m.  Riding Lesson
2:45 p.m.  Rinse off horses and put away, clean up area
3:15 p.m.  Snack
3:30 p.m.  Game Time                                                                                  
4:00 p.m.  Stable Management
4:30 p.m.  Gather Things and prepare to leave
5 p.m.  Parents arrive

Tuesday

9 a.m.  Review of days activities
9:30 a.m.  Groom and tack
10 a.m.  Lesson
10:45 a.m.  Cool down and put horses away
11:15 a.m.  Craft
12 pm   Lunch/ free time
1 p.m.  Breeds, Colors and Markings of horses
2 p.m.  Leading Game
2:30 p.m.  Break
3:00 p.m. Horse Conformation (finger paint the horse)
3:30 p.m.  Bathing Lesson
4:00 p.m.  Stable Management
4:30 p.m.  Gather Things and prepare to leave
